Social Security benefits and immune disorders

When you are suffering from an immune disorder, some of the most basic tasks can become seemingly impossible. Depending on the type of immune disorder you are suffering from, you may feel fatigued, anxious, depressed and suffer from fever. Immune disorders have the potential to affect all organs and muscles, causing weakness and a whole variety of illnesses.

Because of the broad range of symptoms that can result from immune disorders, it is impossible to be able to predict the rights to Social Security benefits that each person will have. However, there are some general pointers that can be helpful to all immune disorder sufferers.

Determining your possible benefits based on your income

Your past working history as well as your present ability to gain income has a large effect on whether you will be eligible for benefits. If you currently earn more than $1,170 per month, you will not be eligible for benefits. However, if you earn less than this and your disability is considered to be severe, it is likely that you will be able to gain benefits.

Determining your possible benefits based on the severity of your disability

A medical practitioner will be able to assess the severity of your immune disorder. They will assess your ability to carry out basic physical tasks such as walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. They will also assess your speaking, hearing and optical abilities.

If you are a sufferer of an immune disorder, it is important that you make sure that you are receiving all the benefits that you are entitled to.
